When I sat down to read this book what first struck me was the stunning contrast of the blacks and whites with the bright colors. This book has 24 projects to piece and applique - wall quilts, lap quilts, table runners, and placemats. I found the instructions very easy to understand. The first pattern that caught my eye was the "Peacock Feathers" lap quilt. It has bright appliqued feathers in greens and teals against a black and white pieced background. The applique is designed for paper-backed fusible web with machine applique. For a beginner "Making Tracks" is a high contrast lap quilt with easy, straight piecing and rotary cut squares and rectangles. There are six placemat patterns which I thought would be great small projects for gifts and also a way to preview your fabric choices.
