Foolproof Crazy-Quilt Projects is a follow-up to Foolproof Crazy Quilting, my favorite book on crazy quilting – both by Jennifer Clouston from Australia. Her first book focused on the needlework embellishment of crazy quilts; this one expands the application of embroidery stitches, ribbon work, buttons, and beading to small quilted projects such as a tea cozy, sewing basket, trinket box, slippers, and various purses. They are all lovely and unique! Seam by seam stitch maps, a stitch dictionary, and full-sized patterns are included.

Jennifer Clouston has a fascinating way of presenting the stitches - the seam-by-seam stitch maps. In both books, she shows a hand-sewn project covered with stitches and embellishment, then breaks down each area with detailed, close-up photographs of the stitches, describing each stitch with its name, type and size of thread or ribbon used, and where in the book one can find instructions for that stitch. As the sewer comes to a new area, a quick perusal of the illustrations will provide inspiration and the information needed to recreate a beautiful combination of stitches. The projects in this book also expand the color palette to include lighter fabrics and include materials such as wool. I am eager to add Foolproof Crazy-Quilt Projects to my crazy quilt library!
