Before even cracking open this book, the color scheme on the cover was immediately enticing. I will admit it - I totally judged this book by the cover. But, once I started digging into You Can Quilt, I discovered the rich resource of block-building it offers in a truly attractive format.
For the FULL whammy, the authors embrace the classic Rosie the Riveter "We Can Do It" motif (Plus a showcase of their amazing Rosie quilt with her as the centerpiece!) - as they walk the reader through a full gamut of blocks and applique techniques to eventually accomplish a full 98" square skill builder quilt shown in part on the cover.
As someone who really loves modern and minimalist colorways, but also all the traditional blocks; this book has further underscored that with time, I can do it too. Compass block, I'm coming for you!
Bonus aspect: the authors have a Flickr group where fellow sewists can upload their skill building sampler quilts to showcase. Just search "wecandoitskillbuildersampler" on Flickr.
