Cabin Fever by Natalia Bonner and Kathleen Whiting appeals to me because of the twenty diverse and clever quilts shown in bright colors, offered in various sizes, and based (sometimes loosely) on the Log Cabin block - but with a modern vibe. All the patterns include an alternate colorway suggestion and instructions for various sizes, which are usually: block (12”), baby (36” square), throw (60” x 72”), and coverlet (96” - 102”square).

There are several designs in Cabin Fever that caught my eye. I am drawn to quilt designs with interlocked and overlaid patterns. My two favorite designs are Dappled and Stacked Up. Dappled, shown in neutrals, is made of a simplified Log Cabin, cut once diagonally, rearranged, and set on point. The result is a scrappy collection of interlocking blocks with graphic appeal. The photos show the coverlet size on a bed with matching pillows. Stacked Up, seen on the book’s cover, has a 3-D effect with large blocks that appear to float over the same blocks in the background. I am eager to add Cabin Fever to my quilt library and recommend to quilters of all skill levels.
