I love Kim Schaefer’s new book! I am always attracted to quilts that have log cabin blocks, so the cover photo of the log cabin table topper caught my eye. It combines log cabin blocks and appliqué. I’m always looking for cheery spring projects after the grey winter days we have in the Northwest. This will really liven up the look of my table and I will use it through summer or maybe all year!
There are patterns for 50 different flower and bug appliqué blocks in a contemporary folk art style. There is a wide variety of flower designs and the bugs make me smile when I looked at them. Many of the appliqué patterns would be great for beginners.
There are nine easy to piece projects in the book. They range in size from a finished single block to a large lap quilt. It gets better! All 50 blocks are 8” so you can follow the patterns exactly as they are shown in the book or mix and match them and create the look you want. The projects would be great for children or adults depending on the fabrics and blocks you choose! I’m already planning one of the quilts in my head using the bug blocks for a little boy’s quilt, and maybe a bright flower quilt for a little girl.
Kim’s directions are for using fusible web appliqué, so the projects can be quick and easy or they can easily be adapted to your favorite appliqué method. What more can I say? This book looks like a lot of fun.
