This is a must have reference book for any sewing library. Especially mine! The title says it has essential techniques for tailoring and embellishments. At first I thought it would only apply to making clothing until I opened the cover. It has so much information that can be used in all types of handwork. The Stitching Essentials section has valuable information on selecting needles, thread, pins, and everything you need to know to about stitching. There are many types of Functional Stitches that can be used in everyday living such as sewing buttons on, hemming, basting, and sewing on snaps. The Decorative Stitches section has a plethora of stitches used in quilting, applique, embroidery, and embellishing. The photographs used for the instructions are great and the book is organized so it is very easy to use. I must have this book!
