In my ongoing quest to improve my machine quilting skills, I get excited when I find new books to inspire me. Angela Walter’s first book,Free-Motion Quilting, came out earlier this year and focused on choosing and using quilting designs for modern quilts. She has followed up with another excellent book, In the Studio with Angela Walters, which expands the possibilities for using machine quilting designs to add movement, contrast, depth, and texture to quilts. Angela Walters is a young woman who learned to quilt from her husband’s grandfather about ten years ago. Today, she is a nationally known professional machine quilter, teacher, and author who enthusiastically shares her belief that quilting is another layer of art on a quilt. The author encourages us to think beyond using overall quilting designs for every quilt. Through detailed drawings and close-up photographs of her quilting, she shares her ideas for planning quilt designs for different parts of a quilt to enhance the overall effect. Whether a quilter is “traditional” or “modern”, a beginner or experienced, and uses a domestic or longarm machine to quilt, I think everyone will find inspiration from In the Studio with Angela Walters!
