This compilation of Denyse's work features her unique talent for reinterpreting traditional designs in a modern way. In Denyse's mind, it's only a short hop from a traditional Mariner's compass quilt to a modern version on the design. Projects include bed quilts, throws, miniature quilts, and wall hangings.
Techniques: piecing and applique
20 projects – 160 color pgs. Item No. 45596

An accomplished blend of new and old, Denyse Schmidt’s book combines polar opposites to produce results beyond beautiful. She enlarges designs in her quilts to create a "modern" rendering of what was traditional such as, Rail Fence and Orange Peel quilts. Her designs are uncomplicated and deliver the viewer an awareness of the peaceful and unfettered elegance of simplicity.
There is such beauty in traditional blocks of yesteryear. Constructed in straightforward cuts and few pieces, Sawtooth Stripe and Streak of Lightening are easily assembled in a day. A single Courthouse Steps block is made to the size of a large table topper or throw quilt! The designs are ingenious and make me ask myself, “Why didn’t I think of that?” Many of the fabrics are solids with a few prints mixed among them.
I recommend taking a look-see at the inside pages of this hardbound book. I am a traditional quilter and I loved these quilts. A great springboard to simplifying your own quilt designs, this book can be a wonderful resource for experimenting with those “old” blocks we rarely see anymore.
