Quilts from the American Homefrontby Rosemary Youngs
Quilts from the American Homefront isn't just a quilt block book, it's a memoir book. The letters from loved ones to soldiers in the war are very touching; they remind us of how much they were missed while in action. Using letters, postcards, and photos, Rosemary pieces together a patchwork view in which our nation was forged.

As the daughter of a very proud Navy veteran of World War II, who married the love of his life on D-Day, June 6, 1941, this book really caught my eye. It’s not only a book of quilt blocks, and suggestions of how to put them together in a quilt, but also a collection of letters from a group of soldiers written to their loved ones while they were overseas during the war. These touching communications were the only means of keeping in touch in those days, and are so heartwarming.
It’s my intention to choose a group of the blocks from the book and make a quilt using some of my favorite red, white and blue fabrics. It will be in memory of my Dad, and I may just give it to my Mom.
