This book encourages every quilter to embrace and revive the love of an old-time favorite, the string quilt. Virginia and Barbara share techniques with a modern-day approach to string piecing, and encourage you to think outside the box, and challenge you to work with value. New quilters and beginning sewists will easily grasp this technique. The designs appear complex but are extremely easy and fast to assemble, since they require no precision piecing.

A lovely collaboration with Nancy Zieman and the authors, String Quilt Revival provides a plethora of techniques and ideas that I found engaging. Having never made a string quilt before, I found this book curiously interesting. The lovely designs created from strips of fabric are what attracted me at first. The few templates used rein in the wild and crazy strips but also provide a stabilizing structure to each design. The templates give a strong foundation to each quilt’s composition. I usually cringe when I have to use templates, but the way they are used here make sense and are very easy to incorporate into each block. Throughout the book are "Notes from Nancy (Zieman)" affording the reader tips, suggestions and a number of pertinent ideas to ponder. Included with the book is a CD with Nancy demonstrating a novel approach to 13 designs.
