While browsing through Nancy Halvorsen’s darling book, Curiosities & Mischief, looking for quick and easy gifts to make, I saw the cutest little monster! Not just a monster, a usable tooth pillow! There are a lot of great kids gifts in this book but this one spoke to me. I fell in love and wanted to make him.

In Sweet & Simple Patchwork Gifts: 25 Charming Projects to Make Using Classic Quilt Motifs by Hisako Arai and Yoko Sanjo, I was drawn to the Market Tote and coordinating Small Bag because I wanted to practice English Paper Piecing (EPP). I chose the Small Bag because its size was more suitable to a quick Gifty Galore project.

My little helper!

Boy, I sure don’t know how I got anything done before my son came along. At three he is in the “helping” stage and wants to help with EVERYTHING. God forbid any one flushes the toilet or throws anything in the trash themselves because apparently those are his jobs. Quilting, it seems, is not exempt from his help. I was trying to get my Autumn Berries Table Runner, from the book My Runners, finished up in time to decorate with it this year (I thought it was the perfect pattern for our Maple Skies collection) when Tyler jumped the baby gate and came running into my sewing room to “help”.

Here are a few pictures of him helping me. Needless to say, my sewing for the day was finished shortly after he helped me! Instead we did his new favorite thing, turned on some music and danced!

Cataloging a Quilt Book Library

I love quilt books! I collect them, read them, and refer back to them often. Over the past 23 years of quilting, I have accumulated a large library!  It became obvious to me the books needed to be better organized; I couldn’t always remember if I owned a book and acquired duplicates (more than I care to admit). Here's the story of using my smartphone to scan the barcode on my books and catalog my library on the computer.
