As a graphic designer, I can never get enough negative space. Space lets you breath. Even with quiltmaking I find myself attracted to such 'open' quilts as in Alissa Haight Carlton’s book, Modern Minimal. Her designs are very simple, and as a result, most of the projects can be sewn up in one or two sittings.

Great batik books - on sale now!

You may have noticed in our latest email that we have some great batik books on sale. In the past, we used to show you a few books that we enjoyed, but they didn't neccessarily coincide with the collection being featured in the email. Going forward, we have changed the way we do things a little bit. In every collection email, we will be featuring a book, or several books, that our staff has hand-selected as being great for the collection. We feel that this will create a more meaningful experience for you, and you can trust that the books you are buying are just right for your needs.

This week's email features our new, limited edition summer batiks. *Swoon*. The books we selected for the email are a great mix of our staff's go-to batik resources. Even better, all of the books featured in this week's email are 40% off now through May 16th.

The first book, Nature's Beauty in Applique, offers some incredible projects that were inspired by the author's stay in England. The table runners, placemats, and other fun projects use batik fabrics wonderfully, and really show off how batiks can make a project pop. Just look at this amazing wall hanging!

One day I was sitting down for a meeting with our fearless leader, Matt, and we were talking about sales and what quilters would want. He asked me if quilters would ever just want a handful of really good books at 50% off. My answer of course was “heck yeah!” and from that, this sale was born. I started with a poll of the Connecting Threads department to see what books they would recommend for quilters. From there, Judy and I tried to “spread the wealth” and get books that would suit beginners to experts and that touched on a variety of topics.

The following is a list of our 10 best picks for every quilter. The best part? Each of these books is 50% off until April 4th!

This Week's March Madness Fabric Sale: Hope Chest

As you may have already seen, thanks to our March Madness sale, our beautiful Hope Chest collection is 50% off from now until Wednesday, March 28th. I absolutely love this bright and cheery collection. There are few better lines I can think of for a light and airy summer quilt. The colors are soft, not too overpowering, and are just the right thing to brighten up a room.  And if you live anywhere near the Pacific Northwest, you're probably craving anything that can help brighten up your home. Ha!

While we ran out of kits for this collection pretty quickly, there are a few patterns that I know it would be amazing for. First and foremost, the On a Whim pattern by Thimble Blossoms would be amazing!
