I really do love the Home Front collection, it's just so bright and cheery!  I came across an apron pattern that I thought was adorable, so I decided to make one up with this collection.  It's the Hot Pad Apron from Fabric-by-Fabric One Yard Wonders.  I love the silhouette of the apron, I think its very stylish and flattering.  It was so easy to sew up, the whole thing (including cutting the fabrics), took me about 2 hours.  It's a pretty clever design because of the hidden hot pads within the inside of the apron.

Starlight Table Topper in Shimmering Frost

The inspiration for the Starlight Table Topper came from a block I like a lot, A Girl’s Favorite (in the corners and center). I thought it complemented the Shimmering Frost collection with its wintry, holiday feel. The combination of the block’s design and the placement of color values gives the block a feel of transparency. I chose another block, Sky Rocket, to tie the blocks together and add some movement. This more advanced block may be a piecing challenge. I am pleased with the secondary pattern formed by the touching of the Sky Rocket points!

I was asked to create a collection using a very popular past collection as inspiration, known as "Twilight Frost".  So I gladly took on the task of creatingShimmering Frost to have a similar feel and yet a touch of me included.  We wanted to keep with similar colors of blues and greens, but I also wanted to add black and grays since they are very popular these days.  I envisioned dark wintery nights, snowflakes falling, icicles forming, and stars gleaming.  The motifs are simple and airy, graphic and whimsical.

Crystalline

The Shimmering Frost collection typifies those structures in nature that are orderly, repeating and three-dimensional.  Of course, my mind’s eye saw ice crystals and when that happens, hold on!  The image was burned in my head and I was unable to deviate from it so, you get Crystalline!  It is one block repeating itself twenty-five times.  The wonderful thing about the block is that it creates a secondary repeating block.  This new block makes the finished quilt look very orderly and predictable and draws the eye.  The Shimmering Frost fabrics provide the differing hues which create the three-dimensional visual you see in a crystal.  I love the gradation of color in this collection.  It’s a designer’s dream!
