I'm so excited to be writing this post for Connecting Threads! I work in
the same building, just down the hall from all the sewing machines and
fabric, but I generally stick to knitting and yarn as Catalog Director
for Knit Picks. However, when my coworked Heidi walked through the office with a stack of fabric from the new Indigo Patchwork fabric collection, I did an almost cartoonish double take. All that blue in one place was irrisistable!
Japanese Lanterns is a design that waited a long time for
the perfect collection. When I saw the Indigo Patchwork collection, I knew the
time had come!
I really love how the colors from the Mix It Up! Collection peek out (aptly named!) of the black background like little jewels.
Sue, our amazing sewist and quilter, has a lot of tricks and tips up her sleeve. Recently, I saw her with a cute little dress in her hands and I asked her, "how did you sew that to create that elastic-shrinking effect?" and she said, "Oh you mean shirring. It's easy!" So she set up a little class with some of us quilters here at work, and taught us how to shirr. This is how it went:
