Can you guess what these are the start of?
If you guessed "Paintbox Quilt" you're right! When I created the Quilter's Candy Solid Stack (one of each of our solids), I knew that I had to get one for myself to make a Paintbox Quilt. If you don't follow Elizabeth Hartman's Oh, Fransson! blog, the Paintbox Quilt was a design she did a couple years ago, and then she had a quilt along for it this year. I've been following along with all the photos, and now I've finally jumped in myself!
Her design is for a much larger quilt, and I wanted a wall hanging for my bedroom, so I am paring it down. I'm basically just using the finished concept for inspiration and doing my own blocks. I'm making 49 blocks, which will each use a different solid along with eight coordinating prints. Each week I try to get one color family done, so these are my finished pink, red, and orange blocks.
They still need a bit of trimming to be a uniform size, but I just love seeing them up there on my design wall. So happy!
Because of all the coordinating prints needed, the most time and effort is spent digging through my stash finding the right scrap fabrics (and snatching up scraps from the free box at work!). Each block could just use one featured print, but what would be the fun in that, right?
Well, I'm on to cutting out another color family--can you guess which one is next? :)
