Best of Fons & Porter - Three Book Giveaway!
by Annbooks , contests , fabric , fun , staff projects
Wow! I am excited to announce a special giveaway of three Best of Fons & Porter books!
Each of these compilations is a treasure trove of quilting inspiration! All three books share common features from the popular Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting magazine. They each include several well-written and well-illustrated quilt patterns from various quilt designers. Many patterns offer a “Tried & True” section showing the quilt block in alternate fabrics for further inspiration. Quilting design suggestions are illustrated; some designs can even be downloaded from the Fons & Porter website. Each book has several Sew Easy™ technique tutorials! The step-by-step instructions and photos teach how to conquer piecing challenges, cut and piece a variety of geometric shapes, use specialty rulers, and more. Each of these Best of Fons & Porter books offers choices for different skill levels and design tastes.
Best of Fons & Porter: Tips & Techniques
Over 200 favorite tips sent in by readers of Love of Quilting, on topics such as organizing fabric, safety, and clever ways to utilize everyday items, fill one-third of the book. Fourteen Sew Easy™ technique tutorials cover piecing of triangles, windowed fusible appliqué, machine trapunto, paper foundation piecing, sewing curved seams, strip sets, piped binding and other topics. I found the section on machine quilting helpful, especially the instructions for quilting pieced borders.
The thirteen quilts are quite varied. I want to make the Blue Lagoon by Liz Porter because of the 3-D effect and the combination of strip-piecing with the diamonds.

Best of Fons & Porter: Star Quilts
The twenty-seven stunning star quilts in this book are each created by a different quilt designer, including Judy Martin, Nancy Martin, Sally Collins, Marsha McCloskey, Marti Mitchell, and many others. Quilt sizes include miniatures to large bed quilts. The fifteen Sew Easy™ tutorials focus on cutting and piecing challenges common to star quilts: triangles, diamonds, hexagons, mitered corners, and inset seams.
I put the Mariner’s in a Pickle quilt by Heather Kempel Costen, which combines interlocking Mariner’s Compass and Pickle Dish blocks, on my wish list of quilts to make.
Best of Fons & Porter: Fun Quilts for Kids
The twenty-one quilt designs in this book are bright, fun and sized for kids. Even with the juvenile theme, the quilts are varied in style and techniques. The ten Sew Easy™ tutorials focus on pattern-specific techniques such as working with parallelograms, interfacing appliqué, blanket stitch appliqué, curved seams, Hourglass blocks, Kaleidoscope pieces, and Nine-Blade Fan units. I love the Summer Flip-Flops quilt on the cover!
The quilt I just have to make for Halloween is the Black Cats Prowling quilt by Virginia Anderson!

I would highly recommend any of these books as a valuable addition to any quilt library. The collection of quilt designs and techniques in each book is diverse; any quilter will learn something new and find inspiration for further projects. I am sure you’ll find a quilt (or many) that speaks to you as well!
