One of the reasons I enjoy working for Connecting Threads is the ongoing creative inspiration. A longtime quilter, I am currently enjoying doing a lot of hand sewing for smaller quilted projects with appliqué, embroidery, English Paper Piecing (EPP), and Yo-Yos. This has led me to try a variety of hand sewing tools and accessories.
Black Gold Needles
Black Gold needles by Clover Mfg. Co. are my favorite new product carried by Connecting Threads!
Using that needle or another one, I made many more Yo-Yos, sewed piles of ¾” hexagon paper templates to squares of batiks for an EPP project, used YLI Wonder Invisible Nylon Thread to sew the EPP pieces together into flowers, and worked on an appliqué project. The thin, but strong, Black Gold needles slid through the fabric easily and worked great for every needlework task.
Clover Needle Threader
Another great thing about the Black Gold needles is that, due to their oval-shaped eyes, they work well with the Clover Needle Threader. I had one of these needle threaders in my lap all day in the car and it threaded the needle almost 100% of the time.
Back at work, I gathered threads, including our 50 wt. Essential thread, 100 wt. YLI silk thread, and YLI Wonder Invisible Nylon Thread, and four of the Clover Needle Threaders. The three thread types worked well consistently with the needle threaders with both the Black Gold #9 and #12 Appliqué/Sharps.
Several of our staff tried the Black Gold Appliqué/Sharps needles before we decided to carry them. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
