If you’re a quilter, chances are you’ve got scraps. If you’ve got scraps, you’re likely thinking about what you can do with them. Lucky for you, we found dozens of options in a wonderful book by Deanne Eisenman called Scrap Quilts go Country.

This book is jam-packed with great ideas for using scrap pieces in any size, and although all of the quilts are shown in country themed fabrics, why wouldn’t they be just as fun in something bright -- or even in batiks? And, if you’re a new quilter and don’t have that stash of scraps yet, there are cutting instructions for using precuts as well.
To give you an idea of the patterns that this book has to offer, I’ve chosen just a couple that I find particularly nice to show you.

I know you’ll love this book as much as I do, so we’re giving away three copies of it! To win, simply let us know how you save your scraps – do you cut them in a certain size, are they all just in a container waiting for inspiration, or do you have no real plan, but think you should save them “just in case”?
This giveaway will run from February 28th thru March 6th, and we’ll announce the winners on March 7th.
RULES: One entry per person. To be considered, your mailing address must be in the contiguous United States. No purchase necessary.

Mar 6, 2011 at 5:34 PM I have a big rubber maid tote that I throw my scraps in if they are too small to iron and fold for my stash. I made one scrappy quilt out of the tote and it didn't make a difference. I really could use this book so that someday I could see the bottom of my large rubbermaid tote.
Mar 6, 2011 at 4:44 PM Thank you for this nice giveaway. I would love to win this book and know that my mother will enjoy it. Most of our fabric is stored in large labelled clear plastic containers by color. Scraps or yardage - no matter what fiber content and not quilt shop quality. Itsy scraps (most purchased from Haven Hospice thrift store) are in plastic ziploc bags - stored in a clear plastic container.
Mar 6, 2011 at 3:57 PM Scrap quilts are my absolute favorite and I would love this book. Small scraps are kept in a pretty floral box, but everything else goes in an old dresser used just for my stash.
Mar 6, 2011 at 2:57 PM OHHH I hope I made it in time! I would love to have this book!!! I have so many scraps of treasured fabric that I would love to use into something beautiful!

Mar 6, 2011 at 12:02 PM SCRAPS, SCRAPS AND MORE SCRAPS. A new book would really help with the problem. Always looking for new ideas.
Mar 6, 2011 at 11:56 AM I am kind of compulsive, so I have specific plans for all my scraps. The tiny ones are saved for my niece, who loves them for her beautiful completely handmade quilts. Strips go in their own shoe box for use in striped borders or sashings. Odd-shaped are perfect for paper-piecing, which I do sporadically. Then I have a large bin for leftover cuts, which can be used in various ways as needed.
Mar 6, 2011 at 6:57 AM What gorgeous quilts! I'm so happy that you shared a couple of extra pictures with us. I love scrap quilts and save all of my tiniest pieces and my selvages too, because I like to use them as well. If the scrap is too little to sew with I use it for rag stuffing dolls. Beautiful book! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Mar 5, 2011 at 8:23 PM My scraps are all in one large clear bin. I have not organized them yet but will when I find a plan to do so which will fit my own needs. I haven't decided yet how I will do them but don't want to do it one way and then change my mind later as I have done with my fabrics now three times.
That looks like a great book to own and I'd love to win one of the copies.
Mar 5, 2011 at 8:21 PM I LOVE to organize almost as much as I love to quilt. I store my scraps in a couple of different ways. My scraps that have some wonder-under still attached go in a big "applique" bag so I can just snip off a small piece that still has fusible web attached to it and keep those pieces separated from my piecing scraps. My large scraps of at least 8x8" go back into the regular plastic tubs sorted by color. Smaller scraps are cut into 2 & 1/2" squares that I use for "beginners and finishers" as I piece other quilts. Anything smaller than 2 & 1/2" I throw away...and believe me it took me years to be able to do that! Sometimes if I want to play with my fabric I sort my scraps. Thank you for the opportunity to win this book. :)
Mar 5, 2011 at 3:45 PM Scraps? You make them sound like leftovers! I have 8 boxes (under my bed)so they are handy at any hour, sorted by color. I pull them out sometimes just to look at them. My newest idea is to do a charm quilt, so with my first experience with paper piecing, I'm making one hexagon of each fabric. It's REALLY hard to make just one. This is opening up my ideas of making more "scrappy" quilts- this book would help! I have two sweater bags of smaller scraps, my young girls love to lay them out on the floor making their own "quilts" while I am sewing at my machine.
Mar 5, 2011 at 11:43 AM I have 2 small plastic drawer things that I keep my scraps in. They are in pieces but not cut up. I like the larger pieces in case I need something long to cut in strips. These container have casters and are easy to pull up to the ironing board to press out some fabric. I would love to have one of these books.
Mar 5, 2011 at 10:25 AM Sadly, all my scraps are in trash bags. I don't dare toss out even the tiniest piece. You never know when you need just that little special something to finish of your project.
Mar 5, 2011 at 6:41 AM I was painstakingly sorting my scraps by shape and each had it's own storage tote. Now it's getting out of control and I've been tossing them into a single large tote. I have been thinking of how I could use them up. A book like this would certainly help! Thanks for the chance!
Mar 5, 2011 at 5:17 AM I buy salad or spinach in the big clear containers from sams wholesale club. when I am done with them I wash and dry them. I have bins for all kinds of scraps, different shapes, and tones of fabric. Scrappy quilts are my favorite. The bins are not real sturdy, but if you are careful they last a long time, they stack well, you can see through them, and they are free because I am recycling them. if they do break, I have some saved not in use and I send the broken one to the real recycling.
Mar 5, 2011 at 12:18 AM My scraps go in a bag, not particularly handy I must say, I don't actually have enough to make anything right now, but I hope to gather enough to make a really cool quilt at some point.
Mar 4, 2011 at 5:00 PM My scraps go into totes and then one day when I figure out how to make useable projects from them I will have them. My fabric is more organized than my scraps!
Mar 4, 2011 at 3:00 PM I keep my scraps in little plastic containers, and I always "intend" to make scrap quilts, like maybe flying geese, with them but I don't do this as often as I should. I do not cut them into a specific size because I never know what size I'll need until I start the project. Thank You!
Mar 4, 2011 at 9:24 AM My scaps tend to go into a generic container, semi-sorted by color -- because I tend to use them as color combinations. Perhaps I think short-term, but I don't cut them up as they accumulate, keep thinking I don't know how I will use them and if they've been cut too small -- oh, oh. Small pieces that are left from trimming and are consistent may go into separate bags.
Mar 3, 2011 at 6:07 PM It seems that all quilter have the same problems. To much fabric, to little time, not enough space and tomany ideas.
Mar 3, 2011 at 4:22 PM I have my fabrics separated in plastic containers. Everything greater than around a fat quarter size is folded and gathered together with like colors. Everything smaller in size is in another container.
Initially I thought I would just go ahead and either cut strips or blocks depending on the piece. I decided it was too much work when I didnt have a specific project in mind so all the scraps are literally heaped up and overflowing in the container. I just recently pulled out various colors to make the border sections in Cottage Creek Quilts' Simply Spring pattern.
The tiniest of pieces usually go into the trash. Gasp you say, but Im talking the tiny trimmings. I recently met a lady who takes these scraps and makes little beds for cats/kittens after surgery or when they are sick. I'm not sure if she uses batting, I'll have to ask, but I put together a bag scrap batting for her too.
Thanks for the chance! The book looks great.
Mar 3, 2011 at 2:59 PM I've just finished 2 quilt tops of clothes from when my son and daughter were toddlers. One quilt top is for my son's 30th birthday this Sept. and the other is for me. My daughter passed away when she was 6, and both "tops" have her dresses in them. I've saved "every" scrap in a plastic tote to make me a "strip" memory pillow. Thanks for the chance to add another book to my beginners quilting library.
Mar 3, 2011 at 1:21 PM I've looked and looked but didn't find how to enter the contest for the book. I would love to entr. Please guide me. Thanks.
Mar 3, 2011 at 10:06 AM I have scraps all over the sewing room that would be put to great use with this book. It would be a real joy to win. Thanks..
Mar 3, 2011 at 8:22 AM I have just accumulated enough of the scraps needed for a quilt like the ones in this book, and wish to learn more to use them up! Would love to win it! Thanks!
Mar 3, 2011 at 5:35 AM I have lots of floral fat quarters. It would be nice to know what to do with them.
Mar 3, 2011 at 4:40 AM I have my scraps seperated by color in plastic bins. I don't cut them until I need them. That way, I can always find certain colors for applique as well as scrap quilts.
Mar 3, 2011 at 1:27 AM Hi, I save them just in case... I never throw anything away that might come in handy the next time! I think I got this from my dear sweet grandmother - she never threw anything away of value, or come to think of it, with no value either! We are the "save everything family" and I am glad to be that way since we are saving money by saving everything! My grandmother would save used ketchup bottles just in case she needed them for one of the animals on the farm. She reused those for feeding a new born animal or a sick one that couldn't raise its head... oh well, that's probably enough writing about this subject! Thanks!
Mar 3, 2011 at 12:51 AM I have four bins: Pre-washed scraps & Unwashed scraps (for the smaller pieces), and "Prewashed" and "Unwashed" for any yardage that has been cut up but isn't scrap-sized. I can't bring myself to cut it into strips before I'm ready to use it...what if it turns out that's not what I end up wanting?
Thansk for the giveaway.

Mar 2, 2011 at 7:34 PM I have started sorting my scraps using Bonnie Hunter's book. I would love to win this book. Thanks for the giveaway.
Mar 2, 2011 at 7:31 PM For now, I just throw them in a bin. Someday I know I'll get around to sorting them, probably by color.
Mar 2, 2011 at 7:13 PM Would love to win this book, then I wouldn't have an excuse for not knowing how to organize my scraps!
Mar 2, 2011 at 4:59 PM So I miss out again but at least I can say the book looks so good.
Mar 2, 2011 at 4:58 PM Scrapes are fun and another boo to add to my collection would be wonderful for ideas.
Mar 2, 2011 at 3:28 PM Stars my favorite thing to make and look at.
Mar 2, 2011 at 2:19 PM I love quilting books. So much inspiration! I don't cut my scraps until I get ready to use them, unless I have a specific pattern in mind. (Just in case I need a different size).
Mar 2, 2011 at 1:37 PM A new book with new ideas to use my scraps would be more than welcome. I have 15 clear shoeboxes labeled with the color stacked on a bookshelf that contain all my small pieces. I also keep any left over binding to use as binding on a scrappy quilt or to cut into 2.5 blocks.
No matter how organized I get, there are still alot of scraps leftover & my 4 yr old grandson loves to glue them
on his wood work projects.
Mar 2, 2011 at 12:10 PM I put aside my scraps until the project I'm working on is complete then I cut up my scrap fabric into 1 1/2" to 3" strips depending on size of leftover. I have labelled plastic containers which the corresponding size is kept then I can just reach for whatever size I need.
Mar 2, 2011 at 10:46 AM Funny that you should ask...I'm in the process of cleaning up my stash...was in a postage stamp swap (1 1/2")...after cutting the 500 I needed to swap, I just kept going...have cut all of the larger scraps into 2 1/2" and 3 1/2" squares...now I'm using up all the scraps left over to cut more 1 1/2" squares. Nice to see my stash getting organized and ready to use! :0)
Mar 2, 2011 at 10:42 AM I have many scraps just waiting to be used. Thanks
Mar 2, 2011 at 10:11 AM I have lots of scraps and would love to be able to use them. This book would be great to have for that purpose
Mar 2, 2011 at 9:58 AM I have my scraps organized into plastic tubs, I have a tub each for 1", 1 1/2", 2", 2 1/2" etc all the way up to 7" wide. Then it's either the fat eight's or fat quarter tubs. The squares I have in canisters, 2", 2 1/2", 3", 3 1/2", etc up to 6.5". When I working on a project I throw all the scraps into a laundry basket, when I done with the project I go through everything and put it away in a "sized container". Scraps that are wierd or don't fit into any container I have, go into the paper pieceing container as I have lots of patterns for small pieces.
Mar 2, 2011 at 6:52 AM My scraps are not organized at all! In bags, in baskets, all over the house. I must do something about that one of these days!
Mar 2, 2011 at 6:51 AM I save my scraps in a bin and then every so often (or when it gets full and overflows onto the floor) I cut them into usable pieces with my GO! starting with the largest possible and going down to the 2 inch sq. I keep those in labeled plastic shoe boxes (which are nearing overflowing themselves, so it is a perfect time to win this - Thanks for the chance!).
Mar 2, 2011 at 4:23 AM Well....I have learned not to save the pieces that are so small they couldn't possibly be used in *anything*! I have about four large rectangular clear storage boxes that sit under one of the long tables in my sewing room. They are sorted by lights, darks, flannels, etc., and are larger pieces. Smaller boxes hold fat quarters sorted by color. Bags (of all sorts!) hold charms, strips, and scraps. Other boxes or bags hold works in progress & projects to do. I love scrap quilts. I can look at the ones I've done and tell people exactly which piece was a leftover from which dress I made for my daughter or myself. I would really like to have a book to help me use up my vast collection of scraps (some of which came from Connecting Threads!).
Mar 2, 2011 at 12:09 AM I just throw them in boxes according to colors waiting for inspiration to strike or the need for more space.
Mar 1, 2011 at 7:12 PM I love making scrap quilts....and my scraps are all organized in strips and squares. I've got bins holding the strips, in lots of sizes, and several sizes of squares are stacked in drawers. My fat quarters are all in short tubs by color or category (like civil war, xmas, 30's, etc.), and my yardage is on shelves by color. I love having it all organized so I can spend less time finding fabric, and more time sewing! Yeah! Since I got it all organized, I've been cranking out the quilts like crazy! So much fun!
Mar 1, 2011 at 3:04 PM i put my scraps in a storage box like shoe boxes i have only been quilting almost a year ,but already needing something better to put scrapes in
Mar 1, 2011 at 2:48 PM I keep my scraps in old popcorn tins. I have one for flannel, one for batting scraps and then others for cotton. I have been using them for handquilting hexagons in the car. I found that I was actually using up more fabric than I thought from scraps, but then I turn around and swear they were multiplying again while I wasn't looking. Can't have enough scraps!
Mar 1, 2011 at 2:02 PM Would love to win this book. I don't have many scraps yet but I just toss them into the container (an 18 gallon tote).
Mar 1, 2011 at 12:27 PM Would love the book. A lady at our quilt club showed off her scrappy quilt today and now I want to make one.
