I absolutely love my Matsuri collection and I knew instantly that I wanted to make a quilt in this collection, specifically as a present for my mother. This year is her 65th birthday and I wanted to give her a special gift. I know I’m a very lucky girl to be able to be in the position that I am, where I can create fabrics and then actually use them, so this will really mean so much to her!

She loves light and airy colors and textures, and this quilt (called Celebrate Spring) will fit in her bedroom so perfectly! This is the largest quilt I’ve done to date, (and it’s not very large, but a great manageable size for me to do and to quilt myself). I loved Melissa’s quilt pattern because of the design layout, as well as the fact that it is borderless. I chose to do the quilting in a way that plays back to the design of one of the prints “Tranquil Stream”, a simple wonky wavy line, done completely by eye. I really loved how the whole thing came out! Now I just have to keep it under wraps until September!

Apr 18, 2012 at 9:55 AM Beautiful quilt, beautiful daughter. :)
Apr 18, 2012 at 9:46 AM It's really pretty! I love this line as well. Something about the pink is what makes it really stand out and is unique for an Asian print.
