The Shimmering Frost collection typifies those structures in nature that are orderly, repeating and three-dimensional. Of course, my mind’s eye saw ice crystals and when that happens, hold on! The image was burned in my head and I was unable to deviate from it so, you get Crystalline! It is one block repeating itself twenty-five times. The wonderful thing about the block is that it creates a secondary repeating block. This new block makes the finished quilt look very orderly and predictable and draws the eye. The Shimmering Frost fabrics provide the differing hues which create the three-dimensional visual you see in a crystal. I love the gradation of color in this collection. It’s a designer’s dream!![]()

The Crystal block is made of four quarter square triangles and eight half rectangle triangles. A bit of a challenge, it will hone your piecing skills and give you a lovely finished project.
