Hello everyone! I’m thrilled to introduce my PDF patterns to all of you . . . it has been great fun working with the Anita at Connecting Threads to get these patterns loaded up and out to you.

Just a little background information about Sipiweske Quilt Designs: I started designing patterns back in 2003 and attended a couple of quilt markets in the beginning, but lately it seems that the good old career and family commitments have needed to come before my quilting career. So I am super excited to be able to bring patterns to you through this wonderful world of technology.

Like my featured pattern “Prairie Pine Burrs”, my first designs were all paper-pieced and then I moved more towards the traditional and appliqué patterns as you will see over on my blog and also on the Connecting Threads site where I now have eight patterns listed – Prairie Pine Burrs just went up on Wednesday!

This design came about because I had started to get a very large collection of jelly rolls – you know how that goes, right? All those beautiful prints and colors all rolled up into gorgeous little wheels of inspiration needed to be unrolled and transformed into heirloom quilts. Quite often it is the fabrics that dictate what I see in my head for a design and for Prairie Pine Burrs I fell in love with the green and the background fabric and the jelly roll just made it all come together.

If you do not have jelly rolls kicking around, then yardage or fat quarters will also work by cutting strips 2 1/2” wide by whatever length you have and start piecing your blocks. This diagram shows in more detail how the blocks go together and I think this would look amazing done in scrappy prints that you pull from your scrap drawer.

I actually made two quilts from the one jelly roll – the one that is on the front of the pattern cover with nine pieced blocks and all of the wonderful appliqué, embroidery and yo-yos.

And then the second one with thirteen blocks and no appliqué. This second one I made as a house-warming gift for a co-worker who had just purchased her first home. Some beautiful machine quilting designs work great on the background fabric and borders and make the design pop.
This is definitely a quilt that is a keeper in my stash and a pattern that I will make again in one version or another – it goes together fairly quickly and it’s your option as to whether to go ahead with the more elaborate finishing or the unembellished version.

Jul 25, 2012 at 5:37 AM OY .ouch ..Reminds me of the saying:Definition of Insanity doing the same thing but eitxcpeng different results.We are all very guilty of repetitive patterns. There is comfort in having a routine but if that routine doesn't stimulate growth and allow you to achieve your goals, it becomes an excuse to not succeed!OY .observe yourself! What a great way to take the ouch out of stepping outside of our comfort zone!Thanks Karen
