I chose to make the Quilt As You Go Coin’s Pattern, from our free downloads. I wanted to make my friends’ 3 year old son Anton a quilt. When I saw Teri’s version, I thought it was so adorable. Since I’m still slowly getting back into making things, I wanted to make a blanket, but didn’t want to be too overly ambitious. I chose our Elementary Charms Sampler set and used Indigo solid as the sashing, Cheep Talk’s Sparrow Red and Jay Circus as the backing and binding fabric. I thought for a 3 year old boy, that this was a great color palette!
I really liked the simplicity of this quilt. And since I don’t really quilt, this was a perfect choice. But I learned a few things, as I assume, I’ll learn from each project I do. First is, directions and proper cuts are really important. I tend to not want to follow directions, but then I learn I may have issues. So I tried my best, ha ha! Although I liked the end result, I realized I’m not quite sure if quilt as you go is right for me. I feel I didn’t have as much control as I would have if I had done the top first before quilting. Or who knows, maybe I just need to practice more and be less controlling. Ha ha ha!
But I love how it came together. And with the left over scraps I decided to make a small pillow, with different designs on both sides. I love how this doesn’t look too young, so Anton can have it for years to come.
