The finalists for our Fabric Design Contest have submitted their secondary designs, so while we get them ready to be judged, we thought we would share the designs with you and a little bit about the designers.
Meet Sherry Saunders, designer of "Tulip Twighlight".
I come from a long quilting tradition. Both of my grandmothers, my mother and my sister are avid quilters. My mother, Karen, taught me how to sew when I was just five years old, and I have many cherished memories of picking out new fabrics together. I always loved exploring fabric patterns in the store. It was always so hard to choose! I believe that my interest in fabrics and quilting inspired me to study art and design, and it has been a large influence in my creative career.
Born and raised in Southeastern Massachusetts, I was always drawn to the vibrant city of Boston. I lived there for six years and in 2007 I received a BFA in Graphic Design from Emmanuel College. In 2011, I received an MFA in Graphic Design from Savannah College of Art and Design. I always had a passion for education, and since 2012, I have been working as the Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX.
As I have been developing a career as a graphic designer, I have become very interested in designing patterns for fabric. My mother and I have already collaborated on two quilting projects. I design the fabric, and my mother quilts with them. It’s really amazing to see how we can work together to make a great project! She gives helpful input on what designs will work best together in the final outcome. I hope to continue developing patterns and build a big portfolio of patterns for new quiltings projects.
