As a graphic designer, I can never get enough negative space. Space lets you breath. Even with quiltmaking I find myself attracted to such 'open' quilts as in Alissa Haight Carlton’s book, Modern Minimal. Her designs are very simple, and as a result, most of the projects can be sewn up in one or two sittings. I’m starting a project from this book called, Basket Weave, which features just a few fabrics in a very open, basket weave style modern design. I decided to challenge myself and choose more traditional, neutral fabrics for this project. I’m using Solid Cream 3919 and Solid Beige 2782 from our Quilter’s Candy Solid fabrics, as well as Mirage Fawn 3894 from our Quilter’s Candy Mirage fabrics. I’m really excited about this one because I know it will really show off the quilting design that I choose. At the moment I’m thinking a diagonal quilt design, or perhaps a contrasting, all-over sprialing design. Modern Minimal is on sale right now at just $13.77, 40% off-- what a steal! I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do.

Thanks Catherine and Fredricka! I'm hoping that this will last through my many stages of redecorating.
