In my last blog I shared with you my love for primitive wool projects. Yes, I have the woolie loves to the extreme. I love the feel of pulling thick thread through this plush, soft fabric and feeling it sink into the layers of abundant, downy goodness. The colors are so palpable. Hand-dyed wool is like working with batiks but velvety. The project below isn't finished yet, but you can see the dying effects in the background wool. Simpy delectable! I'm farther along with this project now and will share it when finished.
My first finished project was this Christmas table mat. It was the furthest along. All I had to do here was stitch down the dots, pennies and sew the white background to the black background. Cute, huh? It looks like paper children use to learn how to write. LOVE IT!
The next project was a collection of lambs. Each represents a season. How can you make a woolie love project without a lamb! Here are my four seasons beginning with Spring.
Of course winter is my favorite because its all about christmas and red! Wahoo! Love, love, love my red! Aren't those little Cardinals sweet?! They're dining with the lamb. So cute! My plan is to sew all four together with a decorative, hand-stitched design throught the seams. I'll bring that back too when it's finished.
Here is the final project. A beautiful hand-dyed blue background with snowflakes and stars sitting on top! Now, I have to share that this isn't finished either; almost though. This little mat will sit on a white background. I couldn't finish that part of it because I used the white wool (that came with it) for the milk bottle in the first project above. I know, it's a "robbing Peter to pay Paul" kinda thing, but isn't that what we do for our art?! So you are going to think I'm crazy for this but, I bought Swarovski crystals and (real) silver beads to adorn my little mat. I told Judy and she just chuckled. It's totally unpractical but it will be SO beautiful when done!!! Wahoo! I promise, I'll bring them all back in their completed beauty!!!
