My Retro Bag from the book Fabric-by-Fabric, One-Yard Wonders

I was flipping through Fabric-by-Fabric One Yard Wonders by Rebecca Yaker and Patricia Hoskins when I saw a project that I knew would be really fun for me to sew up: The Retro Bag. It has cute pleats in the front, and it seemed pretty easy to sew together. I’m going to be sewing with some other projects with different fabric types from this book in the near future; I love that it has SO many fun and practical projects for the home.

I wanted to try out a project using quilting cotton, and I love our Smooth Sailing fabric (like, a lot!), especially the focal Mariners Star (4819) with all the nautical elements, and its cool, blue colors.

I modified it  a little bit by using a different fabric for the strap (Life Buoy 4827), and adding interfacing to the lining which gave the bag a little more structure. The bag came together smoothly, and I really like how it turned out!

Thanks for your comments guys! Actually I am so excited I DO get to go on vacation in a few weeks; my family and I are driving down to the California Redwoods for 4 nights/5 days, and I'll definitely be on the beach with my bag!
