OK, here comes the confession first. This is my first applique project and first free motion quilted project, but I figured, hey these are small, this might be a good place to start. I think I was right!

I used fusible applique and then zigzag/satin stitched the edges. Simply free-motion quilt around the flowers (or use your walking foot), easy-peasy. The vibrant colors of Folk Heart (available next week!) go great with the simple design from Quilting Those Flirty 30's. Patterns for coordinating apron and tea cozy are also in the book for a complete kitchen set, but remember…I wanted to start small. This is a great day project for those that are experienced or a weekend project for those of us that are a little newer. So now here comes the dilemma, who to gift it to, maybe myself?

Sep 15, 2011 at 8:21 AM What a great job! Pat yourself on the back! They are so cute. LOVE the fabric. I need to get that book you used. I have seen so many super cute things inspired by this book. Good choice.
Sep 15, 2011 at 8:03 AM the jelly roll has really sparked my interest. The book looks like fun. Projects and gifts, two things I love.
Sep 14, 2011 at 12:10 PM Those are great! I would definitely gift them to myself. How wise you were to make that your first project. I started with a split rail pattern from a "weekend quilts" book. It took me six months. Can't wait to see those fabrics!
