Christmas Basket? Birthday Bag? It’s Both!

When it came time to select a Gifty Galore project to make, I was drawn to Santa’s Cookie Basket in Hugs & Holly because of its versatility. Instead of holding cookies, I envisioned it as a reusable gift bag. I chose Technicolor Tidings because of the fabric collection’s bright, fun colors. Within the collection I selected festive designs that were not specific to Christmas so the bag could also be used for birthdays.
Basket Assembly
The first step is to quilt the basket sides, bottom and handle. Layer the lining, Soft & Stable and bag fabric, baste, quilt simply, and cut the pieces for the basket parts. The top and sides of the bag are sewn next, followed by sewing in the bottom of the bag. My adventures with the last step are detailed in the Gifty Galore blog for July 9th! The final steps are sewing on the binding and handle. My total time was less than four hours to make an adorable basket that can be a Christmas cookie basket, birthday gift bag or basket for the table! What fun!

Jul 14, 2012 at 8:37 PM Dianne, just click on the "Hugs & Holly" italics title in the description above and it will take you to the book of that name that has the pattern, plus a lot more, in it. It looks like a great book that I just might have to order. Very reasonbly priced as well!
