As we enter into August, many of us begin to feel the end of summer approaching. Starting in September, the kids go back to school, the weather starts to cool off, and the number of family vacations dwindle down. Because we here at Connecting Threads aren't quite ready for summer to be over, we are offering up a fun giveaway with some of our favorite bright and cheery items.
Many members of our staff have all fallen in love with a new book by Joanna Figueroa called With Fabric and Thread.
This book offers such a great variety of summer-inspired projects. Whether you're looking for picnic blankets, a large tote to take to the beach, or even a cute lunch bag to store your snacks, you'll find a pattern for every summer activity.
With a book called With Fabric & Thread, we felt it was only appropriate to offer some fabric and thread to go along with it. As some of you know, our headquarters are located in Vancouver, Washington; not far from the beautiful beaches on the Pacific coast. Because many of us escape to the oceanfront on warm summer days, it only makes sense that we offer an Oceanfront Fabric Sampler and a Beach House Thread Set to complement this book's delightful projects.
One lucky winner will receive a copy of the With Fabric and Thread book, along with an Oceanfront Sampler and a Beach House Thread Set. Two runner up winners will receive their choice of a Oceanfront Sampler or the Beach House Thread Set.
For your chance to win, simple post a comment telling us what types of projects you like to work on most during the warm, summer months.
Rules: No purchase necessary. To be entered, you must leave a comment on this blog post by 11:59pm PST on August 6th. Winners will be selected and announced here on August 7th. One entry per person. Must provide a valid email address so that we can contact you if you win. Contest is limited to resident of the US and Canada only.

Aug 11, 2012 at 7:20 AM I love to make bags of all kinds! This summer, though, has been filled with making all sorts of baby items for my newest grandbaby! Nursery set, receiving blankets, burb cloths, car seat covers. You name it, we have made it!
Aug 9, 2012 at 5:38 PM During the summer months ,because I am a teacher, it is my time to experiment with the difficult patterns that I don't have time for during the school year!

Aug 7, 2012 at 1:46 PM In the summer I like to sew kids' quilts for charity. They are smaller and not so bulky to quilt during the hot summer days. Thanks for the great giveaway!
Aug 7, 2012 at 11:49 AM I'm always behind :) so this summer I am finishing wedding gifts and shower gifts as those dates approach! It's so much more fun to make something special!

Aug 6, 2012 at 9:41 PM Sorry, I forgot to say what I like to work on. I just made two doll quilts for my 6 year old granddaughter's dolls and I also helped each of my granddaughters, ages 10, 8, and 6, paint blocks that I will set into quilts for them.
Aug 6, 2012 at 9:39 PM It would be wonderful to win this giveaway. Thank you very much for the opportunity to enter!
Aug 6, 2012 at 9:31 PM During the warm summer months I love to work on smaller projects like baby quilts and lap quilts.
Aug 6, 2012 at 8:31 PM A litte of everything but seems I am always working on a gift for someone. Just last week finished a flannel backwoods quilt for my brother-in-law for his birthday. Seems wrong to be quilting flannel in July but it works and am sure he will love it. Happy Quilting.
Aug 6, 2012 at 7:56 PM I just finished a fused applique hanging and have started a lap quilt in sunny, happy colors. I should be finishing a Christmas table topper held over from last year, but I'm just not in the mood for that in summer!
Aug 6, 2012 at 6:32 PM For summer, I like working on small, easy projects. So far this year, charity blocks, small drawstring bags, and even a few blocks for my Halloween quilt. Our weather and all of the abundant sunlight call me to be outside, where the sewing machine just isn't welcome.
Aug 6, 2012 at 6:19 PM I am working on my first quilt and got addicted to quilting.... many more quilts to come i'm sure.
Aug 6, 2012 at 5:59 PM Fresh clean colors and a wonderful giveaway. Thanks for the chance. Thanks for the colors.Good Day All From Canada

Aug 6, 2012 at 3:34 PM It's so hot in Florida, we stay indoors and quilt in summer, then work on easy projects in winter while we're between holiday activities. I'd love to have any or all of those things just to celebrate the Florida lifestyle.
Aug 6, 2012 at 3:10 PM I like doing hand sewing in my swing under a shady tree. It's very quiet and still at this spot during the day.
Aug 6, 2012 at 2:51 PM I love small handwork pieces: making a bazillion hexagons (and a few dozen hexy flowers) has kept me busy this summer. :-)
Aug 6, 2012 at 2:23 PM I like to work on smaller projects like purses and totes. I leave the heavier quilts for the fall and winter months.

Aug 6, 2012 at 1:36 PM Thos summer I quilted my first qyuil on my new mid-arm machine. Have started another quilt as well. Last Saturday a couple friends and I helped 12 young girls make strip pillows for their bedrooms. Four blocks together made beautiful pillows and something the girls who ranged in age from 1st - 6th grades handled well. Lots of fun!
Aug 6, 2012 at 1:20 PM Umm... I think I like to sew aprons in the summer months. I don't really have a reason, maybe getting ready for all the holidays and hostessing events.
Aug 6, 2012 at 1:17 PM I love quilting and usually have several projects going at any one time. The heat doesn't bother me for quilting as I have a fan that blows from the cold air register right to my legs. I can sit and sew for a long period of time. I belong to a quilting group of 5 - 6, depending on who is in town and we meet at each other's houses. We ALL use your thread exclusively! Love all your products!
Aug 6, 2012 at 1:10 PM I usually tend to work on smaller projects in the summer. I like to work on bigger ones during the fall and winter so I can drape them over me! Love the colors you have chosen. And the book. Looks like it has some fun projects.
Aug 6, 2012 at 1:05 PM working on machine quilting a patchwork baby quilt made with your Terra Cotta collection from a few years ago....finally getting around to using it.

Aug 6, 2012 at 11:40 AM I'm enjoying the Gifty Galore Projects of course! This is my first year and I must say that the gift projects are fantastic! Even though I'm behind, I at least have them all planned out and ready to sew. :) I also have enjoyed meeting some of the most fabulous and talented people ever! Thank you Connecting Threads for the Gifty Galore Projects and thank you for the opportunity to join in on the fun!
Aug 6, 2012 at 11:32 AM Love working on quilts with bright, summery colors when its warm out. Spending time on making projects for my color class and the blue/green thread collections would be fantastic to go with my most recent project - complementary colors.
Aug 6, 2012 at 11:27 AM my summer projects include quilting the Quilts of Valor quilts that continue to come in monthly and I like to try and work on some of my own stuff. Have quilts to make for 4 grandsons, wall hangings from our Alaska Cruise and more stuff than any one person should have every acquired but hey that is what quilt people do = think that they will live long enough to finish everything that they have acquired. Got to love us for that !!!
Aug 6, 2012 at 11:16 AM my quilting season IS the summer months. . .I curl during the winter and don't have alot of time for quilting and sewing in general. So I try to finish larger quilts, tote-bags, birthday gifts and Christmans gifts during the summer months. I try to work on smaller projects during the winter like individual appliqued blocks are things I can do handwork on during the winter so I don't loose touch with the quilting! I'd love to win the thread. Essentials Thread is wonderful!!
Aug 6, 2012 at 11:08 AM I'm working on a machine applique and I'm using all the wonderful colors of thread that I've bought from Connecting Threads,to applique the pieces down. I don't think I have enough blues to finish, so......
