I do love a good modern quilt. Thanks to Amanda Jean and Cheryl's Sunday Morning Quilts, I just might be a convert to "Scrap Modern Quilts!" C&T Publishing has been nice enough to provide us with 3 copies of this wonderful book to giveaway!

At first, I flicked through the book and I loved the Up Up and Away design...

Then after a few more turns of the page I found The Original Ticker Tape quilt, The Missing U, Sunday Morning, Splash, and the Checkerboard, then the Gum drops and on I went falling in love with every new design for twenty minutes. With each turn of the page I would imagine a different combination of my precious fabric scraps in these wonderful designs.
But where to start? I know I have scraps – I am a quilter after all. But they are just shoved in one, well okay, a couple of plastic tubs. Not to fear, these ladies have a great idea for getting all those scraps organized and used! So I started by making a few color specific boxes (I was tempted to use my stash not just scraps, but I figure that's okay – right?)
Here's a little peak at the Up Up and Away quilt I've begun putting together.
All of us here at Connecting Threads really love following along on Amanda Jean's Crazy Mom Quilts site. Over the past few years, she has inspired us with her projects and delighted us with her stories. If we get so much from her site, you can only imagine how wonderful we think her book is!
To win a copy of this delightful book, just leave a comment telling us whether you have ever tried your hand at a modern quilt, and if so, any tips you want to share about your experience.
We will pick our winners on Monday, May 7th and announce them shortly after.
Rules: One entry per
person. No purchase necessary. To be qualified to win, you must have a mailing
address in the US or Canada. You must provide us with a valid email address so
that we can contact you if you win. Contest ends 11:59 pm on Sunday, May 6th. Check back on Monday, May 7th to see if you've won. Good luck!

May 7, 2012 at 10:51 AM I haven't tried a modern quilt pattern yet, but I am planning on making one for my son very soon. I have a book that has some great patterns!
May 7, 2012 at 10:40 AM Crazy Mom Quilts was the first blog I ever followed. All others stem from Amanda Jean. I learned how to baste, quilt and bind a quilt from her tutorials. I haven't missed one of her blog posts since I started quilting in June 2011. I would love to win a copy of her book. She has been a huge influence in my quilting style. Thanks for the giveaway.
May 7, 2012 at 10:30 AM I haven't made a modern quilt as of yet. I had looked at buying this book. Hopefully I can win a copy.

May 7, 2012 at 8:25 AM I would love this book. Amanda Jean's blog is where I go to first every AM to check out what she's been up to. Her directions are so easy to follow.
May 7, 2012 at 8:15 AM I'm not sure how to classify my quilting style... I've tried a little bit of everything, I think. I love Amanda Jean's blog, she is so creative and inspiring. Thanks for a chance at the book giveaway!
May 7, 2012 at 8:11 AM I pieced a modern rectangle quilt. I wanted to use some AMH fabrics that were gifted to me. I just let go and used the fabrics as they were, not trying to match anything. Turned out pretty well. Now to quilt it!
May 7, 2012 at 8:01 AM I have learned that there is no wrong way to do something. As long as you are pleased with the end result, it is all good.
May 7, 2012 at 7:52 AM HI there! I have been following along daily on Amanda's blog. She was the first quilt blog I ever stumbled upon and got me hooked!! She is really an inspiration.
I made a modern baby quilt over the weekend. And it was so fun to quilt it using straight lines every inch apart. It just added a whole new dimension to it.
May 7, 2012 at 7:35 AM I've made a few modern quilt styles. I love using the pre-cut strips and squares. I would love to win the book for new ideas and inspirations.
May 7, 2012 at 7:24 AM I would say that I have just started modern quilting. I haven't really down a lot of tradional quilting either though, I have mostly done around the world quilts. But I perfer the designs of modern because they are so unique. Thanks for hosting.
May 7, 2012 at 6:40 AM I suppose some of the quilts I've made would be considered more modern than traditional. This looks like such a great book, thanks for the chance to win!
May 7, 2012 at 6:12 AM I have made a few modern quilts, a wonky log cabin, a fun single girl quilt, and many scrappy fun quilts. Would love to win the book!
May 7, 2012 at 6:05 AM Always love her stuff--she has the greatest scrappy ideas. Would love to have her book and not just check it out short term from my library.

May 7, 2012 at 6:00 AM Thanks to Amanda's blog Crazy Mom Quilts I have been introduced to the wonderful world of Modern Quilting.
Bright colors and thinking outside the box give me freedom to break away from the traditional quilting I was accustomed to.
I would love to win Amanda Jeans book and try my hand at some of her quilt patterns!
May 7, 2012 at 5:50 AM i love modern quilting and my tip is to try "experimental" fabric combinations - you never know what you will come up with !
May 7, 2012 at 5:46 AM I am a HUGE fan of Amanda Jean!! I have drooled over this book and would love for my first attempt at a modern quilt to be from her book! :)
May 7, 2012 at 5:42 AM Wonderful giveaway -it's time to get modern indeed. And exciting it's open to Canada as I've found giveaways are usually restricted to continental US. Thanks for that.
May 7, 2012 at 5:31 AM Hi! I want this book so bad! I'm not really sure what constitutes modern quilting. I know living overseas in the Middle East has me limited in fabric choices. I hope to buy some fab lines this summer when home for a visit! So, I can't answer this really!??
May 7, 2012 at 5:16 AM I am only just learning quilting so haven't tried modern quilting but would love too. I have so much to learn and so many inspirational people out there - I just can't wait !!!!!!! Would love to win a copy of Amandas book - it was seeing her blog that got me going in the first place

May 7, 2012 at 4:48 AM Although I am new to quilting, I love the look of modern quilts! Thanks for the chance to win this book!
May 7, 2012 at 4:43 AM I have always loved modern fabrics and get a kick out of finding or devising ways to update traditional blocks with modern colors and inventive settings. Have yet to try a large sparse background since I still have the tendency to make busy quilts!
May 7, 2012 at 4:19 AM love her blog, would love to have her book!
May 7, 2012 at 2:14 AM I think of myself as a modern quilter, yes. What I love most, though, is merging traditional blocks with modern fabrics.
May 7, 2012 at 1:18 AM I like bold modern designs. I think I sew modern :)

May 7, 2012 at 12:59 AM I am new to quilting and just started to follow amanda jean's blog recently. I am making up some of blocks from her 12 weeks of blocks. I am enjoying the process imenssley and would love to have a copy of her book.
May 7, 2012 at 12:12 AM I think simplicity is best when it comes to modern quilting. I feel like there has to be a prominent focus. But I'm a newbie, what do I know?
May 6, 2012 at 11:08 PM I'm in the middle of one right now. My tip: even though it's modern, don't forget the rules! My d&*m dresden block would have been much less....choppy had I remembered in time.
May 6, 2012 at 10:56 PM Never tried it. Looks like fun!
May 6, 2012 at 10:23 PM I have definitely tried a modern quilt. I loved it!! And I gave it away :-). I won't say I'm awesome at it, but I think it's so much fun :-)

May 6, 2012 at 8:39 PM I have been quilting for alomost 20 years and have done mostly traditional quilts. I am now becoming more interested in the modern designs. I have recently made 2 modern quilts using Moda "Terrain" by Kate Spain. The name of the quilts are "New Wave" and "Summer in the Park". I am really pleased with how each of them truned out. Amanda Jean's blog is great! If I do not win this book, I am going to request it for Mother's Day. So, either way, I win!
May 6, 2012 at 8:37 PM I love modern quilts, but I haven't seen this book yet. I would love to win, so thanks for the giveaway.

May 6, 2012 at 7:50 PM Hi, it would be awesome to win one of these books. I keep buying all these beautiful batik materials and want to make something beautiful with all of it. I've only made a few quilts in my life, getting my inspiration from my Aunt who has since passed away. She had quilts in shows and has left a legacy of some in museums. I would love to be able to do as well as she did, and I think a book like this would give me that inspiration to get started and hopefully be like her with this beautiful quilts in this book. I love things Modern. Thank you for this chance..
May 6, 2012 at 7:40 PM I haven't tried a Modern quilt yet. It is something I would like to try tho.

May 6, 2012 at 6:13 PM So, is the slice and dice quilt considered to be a modern pattern? If so then yes I've made a modern quilt. Once I got it finished I liked it but for a little while there I was afraid I had made a mess LOL! I think I would really like to make one of the ticker tape quilts!
May 6, 2012 at 5:53 PM thanks for the great giveaway!
May 6, 2012 at 5:50 PM Haven't made a modern quilt yet, but looking forward to it. Love Amanda Jean's work!
