We're looking for a few more sewing contractors to sew our catalog
samples. We need the following: 1. Experienced quilters who love
applique and are comfortable with the quality of their applique being
shown in detailed photos. 2. Quilters who like to sew dimensional
"sewy" projects like bags, home decor items, and even garments. 3.
Quilters who have experience quilting small project on their home sewing
machines, and are comfortable with their quilting shown for
photography.
Sewing contractors need to be willing and able to
follow the pattern to the letter, proof patterns as they sew, and meet
fast turn around times. Contract sewing is a great way to get to play
with upcoming fabric collections, and get to try different types of
projects. You also get to see your work beautifully photographed and
featured in print. We pay by the project (using an estimate of the time
needed at $12/hour). Earn some extra cash and get to peek behind the
scenes!
Requirements for sewing contractors:
- Must live in the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA metropolitan area.
- Must be willing to pick up and drop off projects using your own transportation.
- Washington residents must have a business license (State of Washington new regulations)

Sep 27, 2011 at 12:44 PM I would love the opportunity to sew for Connecting Threads!! I am a Portland, OR resident and can easily drive to Connecting Threads to pickup and deliver projects.
I started sewing Barbie clothes and embroidering pillow cases when I was 8 years old and have been hand or machine sewing ever since. My featherweight machine went along with me to college and I studied sewing there while contemplating a home ec major, although I ended up a Graphic Arts Technology major.
My first quilting class was in 1981 from Kathleen Brassfield at a quilt shop in Kansas City. We pieced, appliquéd and quilted every bit by hand! I have stayed current as techniques have evolved and I truly love both hand and machine work.
So please consider me... I say yes to photographing my appliqué, my machine quilting and sewy projects!

May 16, 2011 at 11:52 PM I have done this for a local shop and am now in process of moving to apt. building next door to the center that same shop is located! It is so much fun playing with new fabric and patterns right out of the box. I would encourage anyone in the areas stated to consider becoming a contract sewer. Just think, you will be making something before anyone else even sees the new fabric!!!
