I'm really excited about our new 100% cotton lawn fabric, Matsuri; I think it makes a great addition to our classic quilting cotton. When developing these fabrics, I was very mindful about the end projects that would be made, and did my best to create designs that would be beautiful in all applications of this fabric type.
Matsuri is a Japanese-inspired group that is delicate and has a few watercolored prints that work so well in the lighter-weight lawn fabrics. Lawn has a beautiful airy and whispy quality to it. It has a fine texture and a slightly silky sheen. I've seen lawn and voile quilts and have always loved how they look -- they just add a new and different element to a quilt.
When I was given the chance to sew a test quilt for our catalog, I jumped at the opportunity. I really love the collection and the fabrics, and I loved the quilt's design. I'm also very excited to be doing a few projects that I will be blogging about later in which I will be sewing up other items like blouses. It has such a beautiful drape for clothing and accessories. While we all love our traditional quilting cottons, it is so fun to have other fabric options to choose from! I'm one for newness and variety, so I'm very pleased to have it and to work with it.
I found this blog post by Anna Maria Horner on Voile and I can completely relate with her. I love the part where she says "I am not out to convert anyone, but to offer beautiful options that make me happy", because I feel the exact same way!
We are so excited about this new addition that we are giving away two fat quarter samplers of it! To enter, just leave us a comment telling us whether you have used cotton lawn before, and what you would use it for if you won.
We will pick our winners on April 9th and announce them shortly after.
Rules: One entry per person. No purchase necessary. To be qualified to win, you must have a mailing address in the US or Canada. You must provide us with a valid email address so that we can contact you if you win. Contest ends 11:59 pm on Sunday, April, 8th. Good luck!

Apr 8, 2012 at 3:15 PM I have never used cotton lawn before, but the patterns and colors are gorgeous! I think they would look amazing as part of the cathedral window quilt I'm putting together -- and the lightweight fabric will probably go great with the muslin!
Apr 7, 2012 at 5:03 PM These fabrics are lovely! I'd love them for a quilt or for clothing.
Apr 7, 2012 at 11:41 AM Would love to use lawn for a Spring or Summer quilt.
Apr 7, 2012 at 10:50 AM I have never used this fabric but can hardly wait to sew with it. I have a beautiful little grand daughter with one Asian parent, she is just so gorgeous! For her, I would make a dress and a quilt with pillows to match.
Apr 6, 2012 at 2:23 PM Yes I've used it before, years ago I made a blouse. I think this would make a lovely quilt for a little girl.
Apr 6, 2012 at 11:18 AM I absolutely love the new collection! I haven't used lawn before but I'm looking for patterns for new tops for myself! If I won the fat quarter pack it probably wouldn't work for tops for me, but pillowcases sound wonderful! :)
Apr 6, 2012 at 11:12 AM WOW the new Lawn fabrics are the greatest!!! Top quallity, high thread count, great patterns. Can't wait to sew with it. I ordered some the very minute it was available. Reminds me of silk, only better as it's totally washable. Would like to make a skirt and blouse for myself as well as a summer quilt. Wouldn't a summer nightgown look and feel marvelous in this fabric. Would love to see another line in the future, maybe a large floral with coordinates and some jewel toned geometrics. My minds is racing with ideas. Keep up the good work. Love your fabrics and your company.
Apr 6, 2012 at 10:49 AM I made a lawn blouse a long time ago, loved it, very cool summer fabic. Perfect fabric for a granddaughters room. Quilt, pillows, cutain trim.....
Apr 6, 2012 at 8:38 AM I bought some3 lawn in England in 2000. Saved it for years and finally made dresses for my grandaughter. With this wonderful fabric I would make her a lovely nap quilt.

Apr 5, 2012 at 7:56 PM I haven't used this, but I think it's beautiful. I would love to make my daughter, whose husband recently deployedntonAfghanistan, a cheery wall hanging for her home. The branch print would be perfect for a background for an owl wall hanging.

Apr 5, 2012 at 7:26 PM It's lovely! I've never seen cotton lawn before, though I've seen it mentioned in books. With only 2 fat quarters, I'm sure it'd be small, but maybe a apring table runner. Or maybe a new stethoscope cover! Anything that soft would feel good around my neck.
Apr 5, 2012 at 7:24 PM I have not ever used these fabrics but I sure would love to try some. They would make a terrific summer dress for both of my granddaughters who are one and three years old.

Apr 5, 2012 at 5:59 PM I would definitely make a quilt with it. The fabric is very delicate but it would be worth it to be extra careful with this fabric to make what I would call a "girlie" quilt! That would be my plan if this collection made it into my stash!

Apr 5, 2012 at 4:26 PM The only time I used lawn was for a christening gown and that was all white. These prints are so delicate and fine; I think they beg for a baby quilt!
Apr 5, 2012 at 4:23 PM Never used lawn fabric before but I quite like the colours. I'd put this fabric into a quilt for a friend who is going through chemotherapy.
