What first drew me to this book was the author’s use of fabric and color. The cover quilt and pillows are vibrant and a work of art. All the patterns in this book are variations of New York Beauties, which I love.

The first section of this book is all about The Basics. The author talks about fabric selection; all of the quilts in this book are made from fabric groupings of 8, 24, or 32 colors for foundation-pieced geese and fan arcs. I find I have trouble selecting fabrics, so this section was very helpful to me. Making the Blocks – All the block designs are variations of the New York Beauty block, constructed in quarter-blocks. Each quarter-block is made of one, two, or three interchangeable arcs. They are completed with a center quarter-circle and an outer background piece that sets the arcs into square blocks. There are instructions on foundation piecing, selecting foundation paper and other supplies.

The next section is The Projects. There are 10 quilts, 27 pillows, and 31 blocks included in this book. All of the foundation-pieced patterns are included. Each project section includes instructions to make a quilt and a pillow. The author also includes some suggestions on how to quilt each project.

If you are a person who is interested in learning foundation-piecing and curved piecing or just improving your skills this book would be a good choice.
