This book is pretty amazing, it celebrates more than 300 years of British quilts and patchwork and showcases some intimate stories attributed to some historical pieces. It touches on how quilts were made and used, and describes class structure where wealthier families would have quilts made of silk (either handmade or purchased readymade) while the less wealthy had only the cottons they could get their hands on, many reusing household goods. Indian textiles and quilts were very influential to the British designs, from technique to design aesthetic. By the 19th Century many quilt designs had patriotic themes that were celebratory and commemorative. As time went on, the perseverance to keep the craft of quilting was very much alive and well. It bred an onslaught of new artisans and quilters. This book is very educational as well as inspirational.
