I love quilts made with Civil War fabrics, and what I love about this new book from Mary Etherington & Connie Tesene, The Blue and the Gray - Quilt Patterns using Civil War Fabrics, is that all of the quilts are lap sized or smaller. My New Year's Resolution for 2013, was to concentrate on making smaller quilts that can be used every day, and made from fabric in my stash. In looking at the quilts in this book, I can probably make any of them without making a trip to the fabric store! But what fun is that? Mary & Connie list some of their favorite color combinations that always seem to work. Looks like I will be making that trip to the fabric store after all - seems my stash is lacking teal, gray, pink, and chocolate fabrics. It's that little surprise of color that makes their quilts so stunning. I guess keeping part of a resolution is better than blowing the whole thing!
