If you are looking for just one book to get you started quilting, I recommend Quilt-opedia for a few reasons:
1) It’s easy to read. The first few pages are very basic. It’s broken up into sections such as Equipment & Materials, Techniques, Projects, and Simple Projects. This is followed by a little quilt history and a section on modern verses traditional quilting. This book really takes a thorough look into quilting, discussing things as basic as what kind of sewing machine works best, what needles are ideal for various fabrics, and the different weights of thread—these are just a few examples. Unfortunately it does not include much about actual quilting patterns.
2) The photographs and illustrations of all the tools, techniques, and materials are large and clear; they are easy-to-follow especially if you are a visual learner.
3) The projects in this book are super cute and inspiring! One project in particular I want to put on my to-do list is called “Honeycomb Table Center” which is hand-sewing English Paper Piecing hexagons into a cute table topper. Other projects in this book include Painter’s Palette Pillow, Pincushions, Baby Steps Quilt, Sew and Go Tote, Laptop Case, and more.
