I'm still technically a beginner quilter, so I like to refer back to a variety of quilting books every so often. First Time Quiltmaking is a really nice book because it's not overwhelming with too much information. This book is broken down into just six easy lessons, with tips and tricks highlighted throughout the book. It covers the basics, like how to press fabrics by lifting up and down rather than sliding the iron left and right which can distort your cut pieces, and also how to sew an accurate quarter inch seam allowance (which is really important in quilting!) If you are a visual person like I am, you'll find the tools and supplies photograph on page 11 really helpful. This is a great reference book that I know my sister will enjoy too, for she has expressed interest in learning how to quilt as well.
