I was drawn to this book because of its striking cover, and once I started reading about Jean Wells' process for creating her art quilts, I was hooked! Starting with the inspiration she finds around her, whether that's the built environment or the natural world, Jean breaks down how she translates that inspiration into initial sketches, and then final designs, using color and composition to really capture the emotion of her inspiration. I loved her tips for working with color values and how to use fabric texture and prints to amplify her compositions. I love how joyful the whole process seems. As a person who prefers to go with the flow and finds cutting perfectly straight lines stressful, Jean's methods of using spontaneity, intuition, and chance to create works of art really spoke to me. It'd be perfect for those who are familiar with quilting and sewing and want to try a more artistic approach.
