I've been attracted to the bold, colorful style of Jane Sassaman's fabrics and quilt designs for years. In her latest book, Patchwork Sassaman Style: Recipes for Dazzling Quilts, she provides a fascinating peek into her studio, method of fabric design, and use of large, stylized prints. As someone who loves to fussy cut, I enjoyed her well-illustrated discussion of random cuts, fussy cuts, and mirror cuts. The author uses each of the eighteen dramatic quilt designs as a recipe by focusing on a specific block and demonstrating how to select a specific cut to maximize the effect of the fabric and create secondary patterns in quilts. Jane Sassaman's fabrics are distinctive but her recipes for dazzling quilts apply to a variety of fabric and quilt styles. This book is a useful, fun addition to any quilt library with its design hints, techniques, helpful illustrations, and loads of inspiration. The author especially shows you how to use larger prints with simple piecing to "let the fabric do the work". How perfect for today's busy quilter!
