This book by two innovative quilt designers, Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr, explores the interplay of color values to give the illusion of transparency. They state "We love color, but we love the visual relationships among colors even more." I enjoyed this book because, like myself, they find going back and forth between design, color theory, and construction endlessly fascinating. The authors discuss and illustrate how to experiment with fabrics of light, medium, and dark color values to achieve a transparency effect that is airy and three dimensional. They provide several interesting "modern" quilt patterns, each with color variation examples and quilting suggestions. I think quilters of every skill level will find this book worthwhile because of its unique approach to applying color theory to quilting. One quilt, Sweet Talk, is similar to a quilt I designed in 2009 after learning about transparency effects with light and color in a color theory art class. I enjoy applying this concept in quilts and I am sure many other quilters will too!
