As soon as I lay my eyes on Elegant Embroidery by Reiko Mori, I was immediately drawn in by the adorable designs. There is a real tenderness and sense of quiet to each project. I am a sucker for all things tiny—I love making teeny tiny dolls as well as miniature quilts—so of course I was especially taken by the variety of miniature embroidered boxes in this book. Small things are so cute! These boxes are perfect containers for precious gifts, to stow jewelry and other baubles, or as a fashionable pillbox for your going-out purse. Stitch the lid with one of the included monogram designs/clever illustrations to personalize it for that someone special. Not to mention that small hand-stitching projects like these are the perfect thing to tag along at that next PTA meeting, in the waiting room, you name it! The book includes other projects such as lined and slightly structured linen tote bags, some super cute zippered pouches, and other assorted personal items. The directions are well illustrated, include templates, and are fairly easy to follow. The embroidery designs can be easily mixed and matched on most projects to your liking. Everything in the book would make excellent gifts for friends and family with a feminine aesthetic. My mom comes to mind, especially looking at the delicately embroidered tote bag with the posy of violets. Shhhh, don't tell her! It's a surprise!
