Miss Rosie’s Farmhouse Favorites by Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie’s Quilt Company offers twelve terrific scrap quilts; each is a personal favorite of the author from her years of quilting and designing. She provides well-written and well-illustrated instructions for all twelve quilts. The traditional fabrics and color palettes are lovely.

What appeals to me are the unusual design elements she incorporates in her quilts – especially the interesting block layouts and the pieced sashings and borders. Wayne and Gordie (think hockey players) sets Nine Patch blocks alternating with One Patch on point for a dynamic quilt. In Birdseye, the pieced sashing creates a striking secondary pattern with the main blocks. In Three Barns, the pieced sashing is a dominant element complimented by the blocks. Come On-a My House is a clever and attractive combination of some her favorite motifs: houses, stars, and trees. Perhaps my favorite is Raise the Roof. It is a stunning large Log Cabin quilt with the half-light and half-dark pattern of the Log Cabin block repeated in a star block – it’s amazing! With its selection of diverse scrappy quilts, Miss Rosie’s Farmhouse Favorites will be a welcome addition to a quilter’s library.
