Oh. My. Gosh. I adore wool. I love the colors, texture, and how easy it is to manipulate into a variety of shapes. I especially appreciate how the needle and thread slip through the fibers and creates a cushy element to the applique. The nature of wool adds such dimension and character; it enlivens a project! I’m also passionate for folk art. The utilitarian and decorative aspects are unique to folk art as opposed to just being aesthetic - I especially like that it is culturally specific. Well, back to the book...
For those wanting to start with the bare bones, you will learn a little bit about processing your own wool. That is, felting and dyeing. Another very important aspect to caring for wool is storage. You know how bugs love wool! Rebekah offers some great ideas for that. There is also a useful tool page, instructions on how to prepare wool pieces, and a section with helpful stitches. The projects enjoy the bulk of the book and there are some beautiful designs to titillate your creative genius.
