In Yoko Saito’s Bags I Love to Carry, like every other Yoko Saito book I’ve read, the designs enclosed are indeed breathtakingly beautiful. And as stand-out as the 26 hand-sewn bag projects are, what really drew me in and got me excited about this Yoko Saito book in particular, was the section on the Basics of Quilted Bags. In this chapter you will find the foundational techniques to guide you through making any one of her bags: Hand-Sewing Stitches and Methods, Essential Quilting Notions and Tools, Stitching Applique, Fundamentals of Piecing, Quilting, Making Gussets, Making Handles, Inserting Zippers and more! Each method is clearly demonstrated with quality photographs and illustrations. Also, as a special treat there is a small essay with photos that gives a glimpse into the life of Yoko Saito, her shop, her teaching, and her personal studio. The book contains pattern sheets for all the projects tucked into the back cover as well. I look forward to building and strengthening the foundation of my hand sewing skills with this invaluable resource from a master of the craft.
