Blanket Stitch - machine

by Karen Johnson

Why Machine Blanket Stitch? If your machine has this stitch, it's a fabulous way to finish your applique edges with a pretty, traditional look. This works very well on raw edges that have been fused, or turned under edges, including the interfacing method. To determine which prep you like, take a look at my Introduction to Applique, or Prep methods that immediately follow that segment.

Thread? Needle size? This method is not fussy at all. You can use any weight thread and a standard size machine needle. I like making this contrast, so I use a much darker, or much lighter thread than the applique fabric. But it is a matter of personal preference - you can use matching thread if you prefer. For this segment I used Essential Thread.
